In February 2021, I suffered from Guillain-Barré Syndrome and was hospitalized for more than half a year.
Her whole body stopped working, and she was on a respirator for another month and a half. She couldn’t move, she couldn’t speak, and I was sitting in bed wondering if I could somehow improve her life with digital and ICT technology. After being discharged from the hospital, my life at home became more comfortable with the use of smartphones, tablet smart speakers (after I became able to speak), and IoT switches.
Hiroyuki Takao is a doctor who had Guillain-Barré Syndrome and had the same experience as me. Based on his experience, he has introduced in detail the improvement of QOL (Quality of Life) using digital devices in the following two books. In the era of 100-year lifespans, it may not be a waste to think about what to do when your body is deprived of freedom.

A partial summary of the book “Digital Medicine: Current Capabilities and Future” is introduced below. I personally recommend the presentations “3. What is accessibility?” and “4. Accessibility using AI speakers” in the seminar.
